ایده های طراحی :
Today’s world Expos should not be limited to monumental architecture. They should above all be events where all the stakeholders of the international community as well as millions of citizens are confronted with and interact on the major challenges faced by humanity. Therefore the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is the essence of Expo Milano 2015.
Based on “equal dignity”, all participating countries will be provided with the same 20 meters frontage along Decumanus where the various countries’ national exhibition spaces will be located. Iran’s lot is a mid-sized one which is 95.5 meters long.
The lot’s maximum coverage rate is 70% of the lot, excluding setbacks which leads to the construction allowed shaded area. The height of the covered part of exhibition space must be less than 12 meters. The exhibition spaces may have multiple entrances/exits on different sides of the lot including differentiated access for disabled, special reserved visitors, workers and supplies/waste. The World Avenue (Decumans) cannot allow the entrances, though the exits will be allowed.
Milano Expo policies led me to create a sense of place which is not obstructed by vertical buildings but instead developed with horizontal constructions which makes a pleasant contrast between alternating full and empty spaces. So I decided to re-create classical Iranian arc in a universal formation. It ended up in designing a frame gridded by ten cables in a geometric order (the structural mesh of tensile structure) as an abstract arc.
The whole structure is a combination of positive and negative modules. Visitors will get inspired by dwelling beside positive spaces and moving through negative ones. In addition, transparent frames will create fluid shadows on the ground so the ground floor is conceived as a fluid spatial exchange between external and internal spaces, so that a continuous and cohesive visual narrative is created.
Among 7 expo sub-themes, Food and Culture was chosen by the Iranian commission. I chose the humoral theory in order to represent the engaging quality of the traditional Iranian gastronomic culture that is a part of everyone’s daily routine which may encourage visitors to apply what they have learnt from expo in their life as well. In the past when the world was not as developed as today, Iranian medicine science principles was based on individual’s temperament. According to these theories each person either has a hot temperament or a cold temperament.
Each visitor will interact in the scenario based on the Visitor Experience Approach. First they would find out which temperament they have in the corridor and in the next step they will be offered a drink in beverages area to balance their temperament. While they are taught about their nature by movies in the theatres, their personal meal is getting ready to be served in the restaurants.
As it can be seen in above analyses, active ventilation systems are not needed inside the pavilion considering sustainable strategies which applied to enhance the pavilion’s energy efficiency such as:
Minimising energy demands by using photovoltaic cells on southern exposure roofs near smart roof openings facing prevailing breezes.
Minimising light pollution by using semi-transparent cloth material.
Minimising underground construction by using light-weight structure.
Maximising water recycling by restoring the saved rain water.
Minimising the heat island effect by choosing proper pavement material (stone) with a high albedo where shading is not provided.
Minimising heat gain by using light-colored materials.
Due to the 2015 expo sustainability principles, the minimum level of interference in the ground was needed. So a light-weight structure was chosen to create a fluid sense of space in the ground floor with as few physical barriers as possible by reducing the vast underground foundations.
Tensile roofing structure was chosen In order to follow temporariness nature of the expo pavilions, considering the fact that the expo site is planned to be a farm park so it needs to be removed after the exhibition period. Moreover, tensile roofing structure as an exposed one involves people not only in the content but also in the technical matters.
The other unique feature of tensile structures is that it can be installed, dismantled and reassembled in another location after the exhibition is over sooner than other structural systems which means an integrated process for reuse and recycling of construction materials.
